Ranchita EA #8
It may not pay, but you can go there
Until now the Ranchita guitars have all met the body at the 15th fret. Most of us have no business going any higher up the neck. As my friend Mike Squires will tell you, “There’s no money up there”
Well there may not be any money, but now you can go there. Local guitar player Cole Roussos (Clockwork, Verdell Smith, Gnarly Heads) challenged me to make a 19th fret version for psychedelic noodling. I decided to lean in the NoCal vibe with a a beautiful redwood body, lightweight korina neck, and wenge fretboard. It also features the debut of the custom logo tailpiece in gold hammerite finish.
Three TV Jones humbuckers give a wide sonic pallet. The Powertron’ in the neck always reminds me of cleaner Hendrix tones, while the bridge Supertron’ is a real rocker. The Magnatron’ middle pickup delivers some noise free single coils tones, and blends well with the neck and middle for additional textures. A Freeway switch allows for six positions, each individually and every combination of two.
